TRICARE is a healthcare program sponsored by the Department of Defense that benefits all seven branches of the United States military and their families. TRICARE includes extensive medical benefits, as well as dental coverage, life insurance, and use of the TRICARE pharmacy.
Am I Eligible?
In order to receive TRICARE coverage you must be an active servicemember, retiree, veteran, or a spouse or child of the above mentioned. If you were married to a servicemember that died, you must show proof that you were married to that servicemember for at least 20 years in order to be eligible for health care coverage through TRICARE. Other information regarding your eligibility for TRICARE coverage can be found at the official TRICARE website.
How to Apply
If you are eligible to receive TRICARE complete healthcare coverage and are a retiree, spouse or a current uniformed servicemember you need to be sure you’re enrolled in DEERS. DEERS is a computer database that holds the records and information of every military servicemember and their families. Active duty servicemembers are enrolled in DEERS at the start of duty, but you will need to contact DEERS to ensure that your family members are also enrolled. To do this you can call 1800-538-9552 or visit the DEERs website.
