Military legal assistance offices can:
- Serve as advocate and counsel for an eligible client
- Prepare and sign correspondence on behalf of an eligible client
- Negotiate with another party
- Prepare legal documents
- Refer eligible persons to a civilian lawyer
- Draft powers of attorney
- Draft wills
- Provide estate planning advice
- Review contracts and leases
- Provide notarization
- Provide personal finance advice
- Provide family and domestic relations advice (divorce, separation, family support, adoption, custody, paternity and name changes)
- Provide tax advice on real and personal property and income
- Answer questions about landlord-tenant issues
- Provide advice on immigration and naturalization issues
