ACE Military Programs

The American Council on Education

ACE evaluates military schools, correspondence courses, and occupations to determine the amount and level of academic credit that students can be awarded for their experience in the military.

ACE can award credit for most of the training you have received through the military. To claim these credits you will need to request a transcript from the service branch that you are affiliated with.  The way in which your military education and experience credits are recorded will vary between each service branch.

Army

  • The AARTS system will automatically capture your academic credits from military training and standardized tests. You must be an enlisted soldier for this system to work for you. Officers must report their training and experience using form DD 295 (Application for Evaluation of Learning).

Navy and Marines

  • The SMART system will automatically record your training, experience and standardized test scores.

Air Force

  • The Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) automatically captures your training, experience and standardized test scores, and your transcript information can be viewed on their website.

Coast Guard

  • Servicemembers are required to submit documentation of all training to receive a transcript. An enrollment form is all required.

ACE can recommend the credits to be awarded, but each college will determine the number of credits they will accept and how they will be applied towards your degree. In many cases, ACE recommended credits will be used to fulfill your free elective requirements. Have the school you wish to attend evaluate your transcript before you start taking classes to ensure that you do not repeat any credits you have already earned.
