REAP

Reserve Education Assistance Program

REAP programs provide educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called to active duty in response to a war or national emergency.  The amount of funding you can receive is determined by the amount of time you spend on active duty.  Currently, the full time rates are as follows:

  • Reserve member serving more than 90 days but less than a year on active duty- $547.20
  • Reserve member serving 1-2 years on active duty- $820.80
  • Reserve member serving 2 or more years on active duty- $1094.40

Reduced rates will apply for correspondence, flight, apprenticeship/on-the-job training, and licensing and certification training. REAP benefits may not be used in conjunction with any other VA educational benefits.

Am I Eligible?

If you are a member of a military reserve component, and you have served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001 for a least 90 consecutive days, you are eligible to receive REAP benefits. Disabled members who have been injured in the line of duty, and were released before completing 90 consecutive days, are also eligible. National Guard members who are called on active duty can also benefit from the REAP program.

How to Apply

You can start the application process by filling out VA Form 22-1990, Application for Education Benefits.
